New Zodiac Sign Dates - Remember a few weeks ago when we talked about hand-picking your baby’s sign? Some parents have gone to the extreme of scheduling C-sections to get the zodiac sign they wanted for their little one.
Turns out, we were doing it wrong. Most of us have been going by the wrong zodiac sign our whole lives, due to a mistake in the zodiac charts. If you’re like me and had your child’s astrological chart done in detail and framed after her birth, you might feel a bit foolish right now.
The zodiac problems are due to long-overlooked subtle shifts in planetary orbits and other things in space. I can’t pretend to know all about it. Happily, Paul Kunkle of the Minnesota Planetarium Society has this one covered. Here’s his corrected zodaic dates, in all their original Babylonian glory.
This new chart makes me solidly a Cancer, instead of right on the cusp between Cancer and Leo. Fine. I always suspected as much. It pushes my mother and my oldest daughter from Gemini into Taurus, though, and that I just can’t swallow. Clearly, they are both Geminis, not earthy Tauruses. Or maybe, just maybe, this astrology thing is only what we make of it. Like any symbol system, it’s meaning comes out of how we use it, not really how the planets spin in the skies.
Still, symbols have power when we believe in them, just like placebo pills can heal people. I wonder if my mom and my daughter will become more grounded once they find out they’re secretly Tauruses. The new zodiac dates could give us all a playful moment to revisit personality traits we thought were entrenched in ourselves or our children. Your little Ares doesn’t have to be stubborn just because she was born that way. Surprise! She probably wasn’t.
This just proves that anything can change. Even the stars in the sky.

Debt Forces Mandala Airlines to Ground All Planes - Budget carrier Mandala Airlines says it’s grounding all planes immediately as it tries to settle spiraling debts and find ways to survive cutthroat competition in Indonesia’s skies. Company spokeswoman Nurmaria Sarosa said Thursday the domestic carrier is seeking a cash injection from new investors.
She says Mandala also will start restructuring the airline and as part of efforts to make it more economically viable will try to find ways to double its fleet of five Airbus A320 jets.
Dozens of airlines have emerged since Indonesia started deregulating the industry in the late 1990s. But the rapid expansion, followed by a string of deadly accidents, has put a spotlight on aviation safety.

The Best Solution Mandala Can Take to Survive - Indonesian budget airline PT Mandala Airlines suspended operations Thursday as it seeks to restructure debt and secure strategic backers. President Director Diono Nurjadin said a debt restructuring request would be filed in the the Commercial Court in a bid to keep the airline aloft.
“This is the best course of action to ensure the continued survival of the airline,” Nurjadin said in a statement. “Over the past few months, Mandala Airlines has been performing at a commercial loss and the situation now is such that we need to restructure the company to pave the way for the entry of new investors.”
He told reporters operations would cease temporarily “so we can focus on debt restructuring and invite several potential investors”. The company did not release details of how much money it owed nor the identity of its creditors.
Mandala is 51-percent owned by PT Cardig International and 49 percent by US-based Indigo Partners LLC, according to its website. An airline spokeswoman said the carrier stopped renting six aircraft in March as costs were too high, and currently operated five aircraft.
“We’re optimistic we can find new investors and meet the minimum requirement of 10 aircraft by 2012,” she told Dow Jones Newswires. Industry analysts have previously said the country’s aviation industry will need to consolidate in the near term as capital requirements and costs, notably fuel prices, continue to rise.

Palin Video Released After Tucson
Palin Video, Former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has released a video response to what some deemed “irresponsible statements” within the Tucson shootout that claimed six people in their lives and left U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D- Ariz.) with a serious head injury. Click on the link to watch
Sarah Palin has issued a video statement (above) this morning in response to the shooting Tucson, saying his decision to target rifle on a map more Congressional District Gabrielle Giffords “had absolutely nothing to do with the incident at all. How could he not? But why so defensive then? And what better way for Palin to address a shooting that targeted Giffords, who is Jewish, by using a metaphor Semitic? Palin said that those who link the tragedy of her violent rhetoric commit “blood libel” – which refers to a charge of the Middle Ages that Jews killed Christian children to use their blood to make unleavened bread for Passover. Palin is right, this incident was more about mental illness than rhetoric – until you consider the fact that spitting rhetoric are mentally ill.

John Edwards Engaged is not engaged to Rielle Hunter, the woman with whom he fathered a daughter while he was still married to Elizabeth Edwards, who died in December, People magazine says.
John Edwards Engaged, a 57-year-old former presidential candidate, and Hunter, 46, have not commented on the reports.
The couple separated in January after John Edwards admitted he had fathered a child with Hunter, while he was running his presidential campaign in 2008.
Elizabeth Edwards penned a book called "Resilience" and included a chapter about her husband's affair in the paperback version.
The National Enquirer reports that disgraced presidential candidate John Edwards Engaged may be officially engaged to former mistress Rielle Hunter, just weeks after the death of his estranged wife Elizabeth Edwards.
The Enquirer report bashes Edwards for callously disregarding his heartbroken wife’s dying wishes. The tabloid also severely criticizes Hunter, alleging that she directed his children to “call me Mommy.” The tabloid alleges that Edwards pledged his love to Hunter and promised that they would “become one big, happy family.”
The news reports of the alleged engagement have been making the rounds throughout the day, all citing the Enquirer’s exclusive report. The Enquirer did break the news of his affair and accurately reported that he is the father of Hunter’s child. John Edwards is not engaged to Rielle Hunter, a family spokeswoman says, in the wake of a National Enquirer story this week alleging the former senator had asked his former campaign aide to marry him.
John Edwards Engaged, of course, initially denied that daughter Frances, now 2, was his child.
Elizabeth Edwards died Dec. 7 after battling breast cancer for years. Hunter was an aide during the campaign.

Eastern Michigan University - The National Association of Scholars (NAS) has lodged a friend-of-court in the case v. Ward Wilbanks, a case before the Federal Court of Appeals Sixth Circuit.
Julea Ward was a student who was expelled from the “University Eastern Michigan”programme counseling after expressing his religious beliefs on homoS-EX-uality in some of his teachers.
Assigned by the university to advocate a homoS-EX-ual client, Ward was asked to say homoS-EX-uality is morally acceptable. Ward declined to make the assertion and offered instead to refer the client to another counselor, an action consistent with the policies established counseling program for situations in which the adviser has personal objections to working with a client.
Program officials told Ward that his beliefs contradict the views of the consulting department regarding homoS-EX-ual behavior and then were assigned to sanitation in an attempt to change the views of Ward. When his beliefs remained unchanged, the Eastern Michigan University”son excluded from the program.
“The National Association of Scholars is concerned about the erosion of freedom of conscience in American higher education,” said Peter Wood, chairman of the NAS. “Case Julea Ward is yet another example in which agents university in the helping professions in implementing a political program by calling it a university. But there was no legitimate educational force Julea Ward to disavow their religious beliefs or to comply with beliefs preferred by the teachers counseling program. ”
The amicus brief, “In a society where people-two counselors and clients hold very different views of moral and religious, it is perfectly logical that referrals would be a legitimate and useful for advisers who provide a potential conflict with client objectives. ”
The Alliance Defense Fund represents Julea Ward in a lawsuit against the “Eastern Michigan University.” NAS asks for the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals to reverse the district court’s refusal movement Ward for Summary Judgement.

The government is mulling setting up an independent team to monitor and evaluate the realization of Garuda Indonesia’s plan to raise up to US$350 million through an initial public offering (IPO) this year. "So far, an independent evaluating committee has been formed to monitor Krakatau Steel’s (IPO). Right now we are considering whether or not it (the committee) is suitable for Garuda’s IPO," State Enterprises Minister Mustafa Abubakar said at the presidential palace here on Wednesday. The committee had proven effective to monitor the state-owned steel maker’s IPO, he said. He expressed hope such a committee could be set up to supervise the national flag carrier’s IPO.
"It is likely we will order the formation of such an independent team to monitor Garuda’s IPO," he said. He said the state enterprises ministry, along with other relevant agencies were still discussing preparations for Garuda’s IPO. One of the issues discussed was the price of shares offered in the IPO. Garuda is expected to sell 30 percent of its shares through the IPO scheduled for February 11, 2011. To conduct the IPO, Garuda has appointed PT Danareksa Sekuritas, PT Bahana Securities, and PT Mandiri Sekuritas as domestic underwriters, and UBS and Citibank as foreign underwriters. Garuda booked a net profit of Rp194 billion in the year ended September 30, 2010.

New York City Department Of Education – A severe winter storm that closed much of the southeastern coast Wednesday brewed dumping wet, heavy snow across the Northeast and save his fist the most brutal of New England, where hundreds car and spun on schools and businesses close.
Armies of plows and salt trucks hit the streets across the region to stem the chaos during the shuttle on Wednesday morning. In Connecticut, where nearly 2 feet of snow had fallen and that yet to come, state police responded to about 500 spin-offs, fender benders and disabled vehicles. Four minor injuries were reported.
“Troopers are a disabled vehicle to another,” said Lt. J. Paul Vance, a spokesman for the department.
In New York, where officials have strongly criticized the slow response to a snowstorm on Dec. 26, the morning commute was a promising start with the permission of plows streets blocked for days by the last storm. Nearly 9 inches fell in Central Park, well away from the storm of 20 inches last month dumped on the city.
New England, however, seems to be caught off guard by the ferocity of the storm. Governor Dannel P. Malloy, the first state through what threatened to be his first disaster, ordered a double change of government soldiers on the highways.
Heavy snow and gusty closed hundreds of schools and businesses in Maine and New Hampshire southward.
“You can not see across the street. The wind and snow blowing about 40 mph on the side,” said Artie Perrin, CEO of Kelly Roast Beef in Revere, north of Boston.
Ridgefield, Connecticut, had 22 inches of snow at 8 pm, and Danbury is 18 inches. In Bridgeport, the largest city in the state, a state of emergency was declared and the snow only city employees and a board of education essential to the operations of storm were expected to work. In Maine, an inch of snow per hour was snowplows had trouble keeping up.
All flights in and out of Logan Airport in Boston have been delayed. New York LaGuardia Airport canceled 675 flights, Kennedy Airport and Newark Liberty 300 440. Philadelphia Airport has reported about 20 flights canceled dozens of overseas arrivals and 100 canceled, but the spokeswoman Victoria Lupica expected things to be back in full by noon.
Officials warned motorists to stay on the road from Carolina to Maine. Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick noted the reports of swarming and disoriented motorists heading in the wrong direction on highways.
In New Jersey, relatively few problems were reported Wednesday and plows were in force. The locals have been keeping an eye on the governor Chris Christie, who left for family vacation Disney World in Orlando, Fla., just before the Christmas storm hit the Northeast, although his lieutenant governor has also been out of state.
Christie, who was heavily criticized for the trip, said that he and the lieutenant governor would not be out of state at the same time again and has even joked last week about “shovel myself” people to dig out of snow if necessary.
The storm was the third to hit New York in less than three weeks after the Dec. 26 blizzard paralysis and a 2-inch to dust last week.
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said crew’s work even harder after criticism of how the city handled the storm, when hundreds of streets were not plowed, subway riders were stranded and medical calls unanswered because ambulances could not move in the snowy streets.
In Brooklyn’s Park Slope neighborhood, an area paralyzed by the storm last month, all major and minor streets were plowed by Wednesday morning. Some cars have slipped on the slush.
“It will be difficult during rush hour difficult,” Bloomberg said Tuesday. “The storm is expected to be at times heavier than some before rush hour, and there is no way that our city plows can access all of the 6,000 streets in a couple of hours.”
The city was ready on Wednesday with more than 300 salt spreaders, 1,700 plows and 200 front-end loaders, backhoes and Bobcats. Health workers were on 12-hour shifts.
Seth Andrews, a spokesman for the Office of the City Emergency Management, said about half past three no serious problems were reported, although some vehicles were immobilized. He said the teams were in full force to handle any emergency.
Snow and ice had closed much of the South for two days before the storm have joined forces with another from the Midwest and swept north.
Road crews had no winter gear, salt and sand to clear roads, and millions of people just stayed home. Mail delivery has been limited, and many schools and other closed institutions. The storm was blamed for 11 deaths and numerous other injuries.
Some schools remained closed Wednesday in western North Carolina, as well as schools of Charlotte, the largest city in the state. Workers reported clearing highways of progress but warned many secondary roads remain dangerous because of ice. Winter was a notice in effect until noon in the northwestern South Carolina that up to 9 inches of slush on the roads refreeze.
Despite the drawbacks, Southerners face the next day with patience and a measure of wonder.
Lynn Marentette, a school psychologist who lives south of Charlotte, NC, stayed home after classes were canceled. She spent Tuesday catching up with friends on Facebook and children who watch a sled down a hill nearby – and ignored the pile of paperwork on his desk.
“It’s a great, great day out there,” she said. “I have documents and things that I really do put out, but how often do you have a chance to enjoy the snow? ”

CHANNEL 5 BOSTON, Meteorologists, based in Boston had a shaky start this winter misses the first significant snowfall of the season. We have been lulled into a false sense of security when forecasters predicted snowstorm was going to sea and we could get a dusting, if any. To our surprise, we woke up Monday morning to more than a dusting of snow and as the day progressed, the deteriorating conditions on the South Shore,
more than eight inches of snow piled up. This gaffe forecast to wonder which is the most trusted meteorologist was in the Boston area. The survey revealed that it was Harvey Leonardo WVCB, Channel 5, with 19.4 percent of the vote. Barry Burbank WBZ was second (13.9 percent), followed by Pete Bouchard of Channel 7. 25 Kevin Fox Lemanowicz finished fourth with 5.5 percent. Interestingly, the other choices in the poll and received votes. In fact, 13.9 percent chose “other sources not included in the survey” and a whopping 28 percent said they did not trust anyone. Predicting the weather is indeed a concert difficult in New England.
Most recently, a survey was posted on the blog get readers’ comments on what should get the U.S. Congress; the shoe looks like Massachusetts to redistricting after the 2010 Census of the United States. There are currently 10 member of Congress from Massachusetts, and this number will decrease to nine. Longtime Congressman Barney Frank was the overwhelming favorite to lose his seat with 66.7 percent of the vote. William Keating, newly elected to represent the 10th Congressional District, was second with 23.5 percent of the vote. Clearly these two were the best choices by readers.

F Lee Bailey – Evidence of OJ Simpson’s innocence has been hampered in the 1995 trial in which he was acquitted in murder his ex-wife and her friend in Los Angeles, one of his former lawyers said in a new document.
In the document of 20,000 words, F. Lee Bailey tells of four people who could have supported the theory of Simpson, but never testified. It also gives an overview of the sensational trial of his own point of view.
Simpson was found not guilty. Most Americans are convinced he is guilty, “said Bailey, but the document could convince some skeptics that he is innocent.
Bailey wrote the document, “The Verdict Simpson” in 2007, a proposal for a book that never materialized. He has published on its website Sunday.
“It’s about time someone put the real facts of the case,” he told The Associated Press.
In the document, Bailey said the defense team was prepared to call four people who never testified – a forensic pathologist, an expert on battered women, an expert in blood and the person whose testimony possible, “said it is the largest of the four: a man who might have seen the killers.
This testimony, he writes, saw a woman the night of the murders of the kind described Nicole Brown Simpson in an apparent confrontation with two men, neither of which was OJ Simpson. Upon hearing of the murder the next day, the witness recalled what he saw on tape and wrote a detailed description and sketch of his observations.
But the defense team decided not to call any of the four to the witness stand, fearing that jurors would be rejected and additional mistrial declared that the trial of eight months is not soon at its end, Bailey wrote. Bailey said Monday he thinks the real killers were out to collect a drug debt and killed Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman after taking them to their goals.
The document could affect a sector of the public into believing in the innocence of Simpson in the 1995 case, said Bailey. But he knows there is another group whose spirit could not be changed “with a hammer,” and believes that the trial tainted his reputation in this group.
“Among the rednecks of America, where there are many more people seem to realize it was terribly wrong,” he said. “I’m blamed for the acquittal O.J.
Bailey was part of Simpson’s defense team when the former NFL star was acquitted in June 1994 deaths of Nicole Simpson and Goldman.
Bailey, who now lives and works as a consultant in this town 10 miles north of Portland, said his agent asked him to write an overview of the Simpson case for a publisher interested in a book. But the idea was abandoned after the storm and the potential cancellation of Simpson’s book, “If I Did It,” in which Simpson put forth a hypothetical description of these murders.
But Bailey has shared her paper with dozens of people over the years, and a number of them asked him to release him. His site designer suggested she put it online, and his first appearance on both its website and that of the Portland Press Herald newspaper.
Although Simpson was found not guilty by a court of law, Bailey said it was important to show him innocent in the court of public opinion.
“OJ has what I call the damnation of an acquittal,” said Bailey.
Los Angeles lawyer Gloria Allred, who represented the family of Nicole Brown Simpson during Simpson’s trial, said she saw no “smoking gun” document in which Bailey could convince people who think he was guilty to think otherwise.
If the evidence Bailey were so strong, she said, it would have been introduced in the later civil trial in which Simpson was found liable for the deaths and ordered to pay 33.5 million and a trial.
“If Mr. Bailey can not think of anything better than to try to help the good name of OJ Simpson, which is really sad,” said Allred.
The last time Bailey was talking to Simpson in 2008, the day Simpson was convicted of kidnapping, armed robbery and other charges for his role in the robbery under threat from two sports memorabilia dealers in a hotel Las Vegas. He is serving a sentence of nine to 33 years.
Bailey said he is not shopping his paper in the hope of an agreement to book – although he would not refuse the offer to the right – but still hopes to get it into the arena public.
He is not surprised that the paper has received over 20,000 hits in its first day online.
“I can go anywhere a storm in the U.S., saying:” OJ, “he said.
Besides Simpson, Bailey has represented clients including Dr. Sam Sheppard, Patricia Hearst and Albert DeSalvo, the man who confessed to being the Boston Strangler, in a legal career stages. There was also a controversial figure, and was disbarred in Florida and Massachusetts.
Bailey was disbarred in Florida in 2001 for mishandling $ 6 million and stock for a customer. After reviewing the case of Florida, Massachusetts he removed two years later.

Atlanta Airport Delays - Flights were essentially frozen in and out of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport for days because of snow, and the state of emergency was issued in Georgia.
Parts of Atlanta have received up to five inches of snow, which is very rare for the region.
Four of the five runways at Atlanta airport are open Tuesday morning, but the city roads are still bad, and it was difficult for airport employees to go to work.
“We are told that our flight was canceled, there are no other flights because of weather, and the sooner they could come back to the house is in one day,” said Dave Watkins, whose trip home to Hawaii after visiting Walt Disney World includes a connecting flight in Atlanta. “So we will not be home at night” until tomorrow instead of this afternoon. “Wife of Dave, Satoko, was not too concerned when the couple arrived home. “Unlike him, I did not have to work tomorrow,” she said. But there is a glimmer of relief Tuesday.
AirTran said it plans to resume operations, but with a greatly reduced flight schedule. Six of the nine flights AirTran Tuesday from Orlando were still on schedule by 8 pm
Delta said it would receive four flights to Orlando on Tuesday. However, the airline said it still has at least 1,400 cancellations planned nationally.
Flight delays expected to continue through Tuesday and maybe Wednesday.
The winter storm expected to move up the East Coast, creating problems for passengers getting in and out of airports highest on the east coast later in the week.

Regions Online Banking - Chemical Market Associates, Inc. (CMAI) announces the completion of theanlysis of 2011 global acetyl, an annual global study covering historical trends and projections for future supply, demand, production capacity and trade World of acetic acid, vinyl acetate monomer, ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, acetic anhydride, cellulose acetate, industry polyvinyl alcohol for the period 2005 to 2015.
Included with eachanlysis was 12 months access to CMAI’s online capacity and supply and demand database with power midterm update and demand, incorporating the latest market outlook CMAI. Theanlysis is a necessary resource for business managers and planning professionals who need to make strategic decisions in a rapidly changing economic environment and the global market.
After reaching high levels of operation at the beginning of the study period (2005), the acetic acid market worldwide has experienced a period of rapid expansion, which will culminate with a burst of capacity coming into service in 2010 to 2012. Global capacity of acetic acid extended to more than twice the rate of demand over the past five years, driving utilization rates in the industry down. The period of rapid expansion of the global market of acetic acid is most pronounced in 2010 and 2011.
The overall balance of the AVM is best understood from a regional perspective, because the market is generally driven by the regional economy and regional balance supply and demand. The North American market has always operated in the low 80 percent range and should continue to operate near these levels in the carryforward period (2010-2015). South America has not the capacity of the AVM and is usually provided by the North America. The European market LCA is changing with the recent decline in capacity leads to higher imports; the region should become the largest importing region in the world by the end of the forecast period.
Methanol carbonylation accounts for the vast majority of the production of acetic acid, and the share has increased over time, as this process is the most competitive of the effect on the production of acetic acid roads. Essentially all of the new capacity for the production of virgin acetic acid is based on the carbonylation of methanol. Carbonylation of methanol-based acetic acid is expected to account for nearly 90 percent of supply over the next five years. Production to recover acetic acid generated in the manufacture of polyvinyl alcohol is also increasing, which represents the remaining 10 percent of the new offer.
Changes in the shares of regional supply capacities reflect growth in the Middle East and North Asia, while the asset base in North America has changed very little and Europe has seen some decline in recent years. The global demand for acetic acid will increase by over five percent per year over the next five years, increasing to over 12 million metric tons by 2015. Over the same period, the VAM market should grow at an average rate of 4.5 percent per year to over six million metric tons in 2015. Acetic acid and VAM demand growth stems from a variety of different derivatives, which vary by region. Segmentation of demand in North America and Europe is more diverse than in other regions. In Asia, demand segmentation acetyl varies considerably across countries.

Fox 4 News Kansas City, After Saturday playoff games joker wild, Sunday’s game so far are looking for a little more cultured. Ravens vs. Chiefs in the AFC playoffs, the Kansas City Chiefs went into the half ahead by 4 points with a touchdown by Jamaal Charles on a run of 41 yards. The Baltimore Ravens have a field goal on the scoreboard and no team makes it easy on each other to add points, which is exactly how I like my playoff games!
Baltimore chose to receive, after the draw, and turned the disc into their class’s three points with a goal on the field. Kansas City was unable to gain any yardage on their first possession of the ball, but after punting Baltimore managed to recover a fumble at the line from Baltimore to 46 yards, which they then converted into a touchdown. This was the first quarter.
The second quarter was a picture of frustration for both teams. Heads fumbled a ball that Baltimore recovered but has not been able to convert into points. Baltimore is a passing game and the Chiefs play the race. I expect in the locker room at halftime, something will be changed on both sides.

Jeffrey Dahmer, A transient who has cats repeatedly tortured and killed was sentenced today to 32 months in prison.
Timothy Arie Kooyman, 26, received the maximum sentence for three counts of animal cruelty after animal welfare advocates apparently impressed Riverside Superior Court Judge John Davis to the extent of his crimes.
“This is a significant sentence for someone who has been in state prison for the first time,” said Davis, who called Kooyman actions “appalling.”
The leaders of animal rights groups at the sentencing asked the judge to impose a long sentence and had harsh words for Kooyman.
“I can say I’ve seen the worst of the worst, and you’re in the top three,” Lori Curran, a member of the Animal Rescue Foundation, which works as a homicide detective, said Kooyman.
Davis added 32 months to a sentence of five years Kooyman was already serving a sentence for animal cruelty earlier.
During the trial Kooyman, a detective San Bernardino County sheriff testified that he learned about animal torture, murder in Corona after the arrest of the accused for killing four cats in Rancho Cucamonga.
Cpl. Daniel Alonzo said that during May 1, 2008 interview, Kooyman said he used the food to draw a banner, a black and white tabby and a Siamese Corona his motel room, and he boasted of snapping legs calico and run over with his van.
Daniel testified that Kooyman went crazy when the black and white cat “would not be love” and “used an ax to knock the cat twice in the stomach, later, decapitated.
Daniel said that “no particular reason,” Kooyman filled a plastic container filled with water and locked from the inside Siamese, trying in vain to drown. He eventually used a knife to kill the cat.
Deputy District Attorney Sharunne Foster cited the vulgarity of these crimes when they implored Davis to impose a higher penalty term.
“This is someone who has found great pleasure in torturing animals and watching them suffer,” said Foster. “This is the worst possible scenario of cruelty to animals.”
Davis denied his request
A prison sentence of 44 months, which would have involved replacing the court’s decision of County of San Bernardino but has said something that was agreeable to those close at hand.
Defense counsel implored Diallo Souleymane Davis to avoid a higher penalty term because the conviction in San Bernardino was the first record on Kooyman.
Kooyman barely looked at the four activists turned to him and instead stared straight ahead throughout the hearing.
Foster said at a meeting in the judge’s chambers before the hearing, Davis said he Kooyman sentence to two years in prison. She attributes the increased penalty to the display of emotion and concern given by the speakers.
The speakers, including several from the Bay Area, were happy to give a passionate voice for animal victims.
“It seemed like it had an impact,” said Anne Feingold, director of the Urban Cat Project. “It was worth it to take time off work and spend money.”
Curran had the worst words to Kooyman.
Based on his detective work, she told the court a story in which a man was found to have tortured a dog later, tortured and murdered a teenager.
“Although the facts are different, the pattern of behavior that leads to homicide are eerily similar,” said Curran.
Kooyman was convicted in May 2009 for five years in prison for arson and animal cruelty in a case in San Bernardino County. With good time credit, he was to be published next month.
The new sentence wills Kooyman behind bars for at least two more years. It also gave him two strikes, meaning that if convicted of a crime parties, he could be sentenced to 25 years to life behind bars.
“It is among the worst I’ve seen,” Leroy Moyer, president of Voice for Pets, “said City News Service. “There is a Jeffrey Dahmer-type, a sadistic sociopath. His thirst for domination does not end until he finally kills a human being, probably a helpless child.”
