Jet Blue to Launch Flights

Jet Blue to Launch Flights - JetBlue Airways is planning to extend its route network by launching daily service to the Massachusetts island of Martha’s Vineyard in the 2011 summer season.

JetBlue Airways plans to offer daily nonstop service between Martha’s Vineyard Airport (MVY) and its home at New York City John F. Kennedy International Airport from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.

The carrier will operate its JFK-Martha’s Vineyard round-trips with 100-seat Embraer 190 jets. JetBlue says its flights will represent the only full-size jet service to Martha’s Vineyard, and the only flights to offer in-flight entertainment with live DIRECTV and XM Satellite Radio programming at every seat. JetBlue Airways’ Embraer 190s feature all-leather seating as well as unlimited free snacks and drinks served by JetBlue’s flight attendants.

Known for its premium service, JetBlue has offered connections to Martha's Vineyard through Boston since 2007 in cooperation with its local partner Cape Air. "We're thrilled to be bringing JetBlue service to Martha's Vineyard next summer," said Dave Barger, JetBlue's CEO, at a ceremony today at Martha's Vineyard Airport. Schedules and fares for JetBlue's new service will be available in January.

"For 20 years Martha's Vineyard passengers have enjoyed Cape Air's MOCHA HAGoTDI** brand of service," noted Cape Air CEO Dan Wolf. With frequent jet service to Boston; Burlington, Vt.; Hartford, Conn.; and Portland, Maine, JetBlue is among the largest air carriers in New England.

JetBlue also serves neighboring Nantucket directly from JFK during the summer season and at Boston provides codesharing service on Cape Air’s flights to the Massachusetts resort destinations of Hyannis, Provincetown, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.
