In The Lost Valentine, Caroline Thomas (Betty White) loses her beloved husband Neil in the Second World War. Each year, the anniversary of the day they said goodbye forever (Valentine), she made a pilgrimage to Union Station to salute the memory of the magical time they enjoyed together.
Decades later, a television reporter (Jennifer Love Hewitt) investigates the circumstances of the death of Neil – and falls in love herself, with small-couple’s son, Lucas (Sean Faris). The Lost Valentine is based on the novel by James Michael Pratt. Darnell Martin (Cadillac Records, Their Eyes Were Watching God) directs from a teleplay by Maryann Barton Ridin Spencer and Taney. Jennifer Love Hewitt and Brent Shields (November Christmas, When Love Is Not Enough: The Lois Wilson Story) are executive producers, Barbara M. Gangi serves as producer. It is produced by Andrew Gottlieb (Front of Class, The Russell Girl).
Interviewed on the set of the movie in Atlanta, Jennifer Love Hewitt the Lost Valentine described as “one of the greatest love stories I’ve ever read.” She continued: “It speaks to an older generation. It speaks to a younger generation. The portrait of the incredible love between the character of Betty and her husband Neil in the 1940s, and the portrait of my character fall in love with their little son–. I mean, these two lines of the story comes to meet without effort”
Betty White said she joined the project because she had always wanted to appear in a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie. She also liked the story. “If you had the chance in real life to live a deep and loving as Caroline and Neil, she says,” Well, maybe you want to see him again.
“My beloved Allen Ludden and I had a very special love, as Neil and Caroline.” [White and Ludden have been married for 18 years until 1981, when he died.]
Asked about the significance of Valentine’s Day in his own life, Betty White says: “The least we can do is take one day a year just to celebrate love! If you’re lucky enough to have it, feed it and if you have not yet found, never stop searching!
